Vintage 1950s Anatomical Human Torso Model

A striking vintage life-size anatomical human torso model, made in Bulgaria and dating approximately from the 1950s.

Originally produced as an educational teaching aid, this model would have been used in a medical, biological or university classroom to demonstrate human anatomy. It is made from a molded cellulose-based material, typical of many mid-20th-century educational models.

The front section reveals the internal anatomy of the torso, including the lungs, respiratory tract, major blood vessels and pelvic area. Much of the original internal organ set is now missing, giving the model a particularly unusual and sculptural appearance.

This is very much an original teaching object rather than a reproduction, with the surface, hand-painted anatomical details and construction showing its age and history of classroom use.

Condition:
The model is in good vintage condition considering its age, but it is incomplete and missing most of the removable organs. There are cracks, surface wear, paint loss and other signs of age, all visible in the photographs. The transparent/front panel does not remain securely closed on its own and currently needs to be stabilized or tied in place.

These imperfections are part of the character of the piece and give it a wonderful authentic institutional appearance.
