This is a wonderful vintage educational set of six Bulgarian cell-division models made in the 1950s–1960s. The models are crafted from celluloid and mounted on bakelite bases. Each piece represents a different phase of mitosis: interphase, prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
These models were used in Bulgarian schools and universities to teach biology and cytology. They are beautifully made, with detailed hand-painted elements typical of mid-century Eastern European educational materials. Sets like this are quite rare today and make a fantastic addition to any scientific or academic collection.
The models vary slightly in height:
The smaller ones are 29–30 cm
the taller ones are 36–37 cm
A striking and uncommon vintage set, perfect for biology enthusiasts, collectors of scientific objects, or as a decorative display in a study, office, laboratory, or classroom.
