A beautiful and authentic late-19th-century carriage lantern, most likely produced in the Austro-Hungarian or German region around 1880–1910. This type of lantern was mounted on horse-drawn carriages and used to illuminate the road at night, combining practical craftsmanship with the elegant details typical of Central European coach accessories.
The lantern features a blackened metal body, a copper/brass front bezel, original glass panels, and an interior reflector designed to intensify the flame. The vented chimney, long mounting stem, and convex front lens are all characteristic of high-quality carriage lights from this period.
It has a hinged door on one side, allowing access to the burner. The piece is fully original, showing its age beautifully with patina, oxidation, and surface marks that speak to its long working life. A wonderful object for collectors of early lighting, antique transportation items, or rustic interior styling.
Measurements:
• Height: 48 cm
• Depth: 18 cm
• Width: 17 cm
Condition:
Authentic antique condition with wear consistent with age: patina on the metal, scratches on the glass, oxidation inside. The door opens and closes well. Not tested; sold as a decorative collectable.
A striking decorative piece that fits perfectly in farmhouse interiors, rustic spaces, vintage automotive displays, or as a characterful prop.
