An amazing and rare antique anatomical model of the human lungs, handmade in Bulgaria in the mid-20th century. Crafted entirely from solid plaster and beautifully hand-painted, this classroom model illustrates the respiratory system in great detail: the trachea, bronchi, branching bronchial tree, pulmonary vessels, larynx, and lung structure.
These models were used in Bulgarian medical schools and biology classrooms during the 1950s–60s and were produced in very small numbers. Unlike later plastic versions, this one is fully sculpted in plaster, giving it a distinct sculptural presence, weight, and texture. The colours are soft and muted—typical for Eastern European teaching aids of the era.
This piece has wonderful, authentic patina: small chips, paint wear, minor plaster losses, and age marks that tell its long educational story. Heavy, bold, and completely unique—perfect for collectors of scientific antiques, medical décor, or anyone wanting a dramatic statement object.
