Vintage Bulgarian Landrace Pig Models, Agricultural Teaching Set 1960s

An exceptional pair of vintage Bulgarian agricultural teaching models depicting male and female pigs of the Landrace breed, produced in the 1960s for use in agricultural and veterinary education.

These large-scale cellulose models were used in specialized agricultural schools and veterinary institutes, where livestock anatomy, breeding characteristics, and sexual dimorphism were taught visually. The Landrace pig, known for its elongated body, strong back, and high meat yield, was of particular importance in Eastern European animal husbandry during the socialist period.

The two models clearly demonstrate gender differences in body structure and anatomy, making them a purposeful educational pair rather than decorative figures. Each pig is mounted on its original black-painted wooden stand, giving the set a strong institutional and archival presence.

With their restrained coloration, naturalistic proportions, and tactile surface, these models sit beautifully at the intersection of science, agriculture, and sculptural form.
