Antique Wooden Hat Stretcher

Large antique wooden hat stretcher/millinery hat press made from solid wood and iron. A beautiful old workshop tool traditionally used by hat makers and milliners to stretch, shape, or maintain hats and headwear. The sculptural form and impressive handmade construction give the piece a very strong industrial and primitive character.

The mechanism works by turning the iron screw handle, which gradually expands the two wooden forms. Originally a functional workshop tool, today it also makes an exceptional decorative object for interiors, fashion studios, barbershops, ateliers, theatre spaces, or curiosity collections.

The aged wood, dark patina, and heavy construction give this piece a very authentic presence. The rough, worn texture on the lower sections comes from long years of workshop use and adds a fantastic, raw, primitive look. A very atmospheric object with strong sculptural quality.

Good antique condition with visible traces of age and use. There are cracks, wear, surface losses, and heavy patina consistent with time. The screw mechanism is functional, although it does not turn very smoothly and requires some assistance when opening and closing.
