Antique German Colonial Globe by Columbus Verlag Berlin

A beautiful and very rare antique German terrestrial globe made by the renowned globe manufacturer Columbus Verlag in Berlin-Lichterfelde. This is a “Wirtschaftspolitische Ausgabe” (economic-political edition) globe dating from the interwar period, most likely from the 1930s.

The globe features fascinating pre-WWII political geography and colonial borders, including German colonial territories in Africa and detailed economic and maritime routes across the oceans. Pieces like this were used in schools, offices, libraries, and academic institutions during the early 20th century.

The globe is mounted on its original wooden stand, which has a built-in compass and a metal meridian ring. A very decorative and atmospheric object with wonderful age, colour, and historical character.

Columbus Verlag was one of the most respected globe makers in Europe and remains one of the world's oldest globe manufacturers. Early examples like this are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially in such complete condition.

The globe is in good antique condition with traces of age and usage. The map retains beautiful colours and patina. There are some expected signs of age, including small surface marks, light wear, and ageing of the paper and wooden base, consistent with nearly 100 years of history.
