Antique French Natural History Mushroom Model under Glass Dome – N. Boubée Educational Botanical Specimen

A wonderful antique French natural history model of edible morel mushrooms (“Morille comestible” / Morchella esculenta) displayed under a large glass dome.

The model was produced by N. Boubée & Cie, a well-known French supplier of scientific and educational materials active during the late 19th and early 20th century. The label reads “Comptoir Central d’Histoire Naturelle,” indicating it was intended for botanical study, museum education, or classroom demonstration.

These kinds of hand-made mushroom models were used in schools, universities, pharmacies, and natural history collections to teach identification of edible and poisonous fungi before widespread colour printing and photography became common.

The piece has a wonderful cabinet-of-curiosities atmosphere and works beautifully as a decorative object in libraries, studios, restaurants, Wunderkammer collections, botanical interiors, or natural history displays.

The mushroom model is displayed under a later glass dome, which is not original to the piece but fits it beautifully and complements its antique scientific appearance.

The model is in good antique condition with visible traces of age and usage. There is wear and paint loss to the mushroom surfaces and base consistent with age. The glass dome has light age-related wear and small imperfections typical of glass display domes.
