Vintage Bulgarian Wooden Horse Cart Water Keg, Handcrafted Farmhouse Barrel

A beautiful antique handcrafted wooden carriage keg from the Bulgarian countryside, traditionally used to carry water, wine, or rakia on horse-drawn carts while working in the fields or travelling between villages.

Made from carefully shaped wooden staves and reinforced with cast iron end bands, the keg features its original hand-forged iron carrying handle and a sliding wooden cover that closes the filling opening. This clever traditional mechanism helped protect the contents while the keg was carried on horse-drawn carts through the countryside. These practical barrels were an essential part of rural life throughout Bulgaria during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, providing farmers with fresh drinking water or homemade wine during long days of agricultural work.

Today, this authentic folk-art piece makes a wonderful decorative object for rustic, farmhouse, country, or primitive interiors. Its rich patina, weathered wood, and forged iron fittings beautifully reflect decades of honest use.
