Antique Large Wooden Blackboard Geometry Compass – Teacher's Math Drawing Instrument

An authentic antique large wooden blackboard geometry compass, used by teachers to draw large circles and arcs during mathematics and geometry lessons. Measuring an impressive 50 cm in length, this oversized compass is a wonderful piece of educational history and would once have been an essential classroom teaching aid before the introduction of whiteboards and digital presentations.

The compass is handcrafted from solid hardwood with a forged steel curved arm and adjustable hinged construction. One leg retains its original steel point for anchoring the compass to the blackboard, while the opposite arm originally held a removable chalk holder, which is no longer present. The opening where the chalk holder was mounted is still visible. This construction closely matches antique classroom compasses found in museum collections and surviving teaching sets.

Today, it makes a striking decorative object for a classroom, office, study, or collector of scientific and educational antiques. It also displays beautifully alongside vintage school posters, globes, and laboratory equipment.

Good antique condition with a beautiful aged patina. The wood and forged steel show normal wear from decades of classroom use. The original chalk holder is missing, leaving the attachment opening visible on one arm. The compass remains sturdy and displays beautifully.
