Vintage Bulgarian Anatomy Poster: Human Muscles, Large 1950s Anatomy Chart

Impressive large vintage Bulgarian anatomical school poster illustrating the muscular system of the human body.

The chart is titled in Bulgarian:

„Човешко тяло – Мускули“
“Human Body – Muscles”

It shows a full-length male anatomical figure with detailed illustrations of the superficial musculature, originally created as an educational teaching aid for schools, medical classrooms or anatomy studies.

The poster is especially interesting because the artwork is credited to Dr. Krastyo Chokanov (1906–2007), a Bulgarian painter, physician and medical illustrator. Chokanov studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia and later graduated in medicine. He worked extensively with medical illustration and later became Professor of Plastic Anatomy at the Bulgarian Academy of Fine Arts.

The bottom of the poster bears the printed credits:

Artist: Dr. Krastyo Chokanov
Editor: Dr. Milko A. Bayan

The poster is mounted in the traditional classroom style between wooden rods at the top and bottom, allowing it to be hung directly on a wall.

Its very large size makes it an impressive decorative piece for an eclectic interior, medical office, studio, collector's room, curiosity cabinet, educational collection or vintage industrial space.

Dimensions
Height: 137 cm / 53.9 in
Width: 103 cm / 40.6 in
Condition

Authentic vintage condition with substantial traces of age and classroom use.

The surface shows creases, wrinkles, age toning, stains, small marks, cracking and areas of wear. There are also old repairs and deterioration around some of the edges. These imperfections are visible in the photographs and are part of the history and character of this original educational chart.

The anatomical illustration itself remains striking and displays beautifully despite its age.

Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

A rare piece of Bulgarian medical and educational history, and an especially interesting example because of its connection to Dr Krastyo Chokanov.
