Vintage Wooden Chess and Backgammon Set, Pyrography Folk Art Board

A beautiful vintage wooden chess set with a wonderfully decorative folding board, most likely dating from the 1970s and originating from Bulgaria.

The board features a warm golden-brown finish, intricate pyrography (wood-burning) decoration, and a charming rustic appearance. The dark chess squares are individually decorated with a textured pattern, while the borders feature traditional ornamental motifs and hand-lettered chess coordinates.

The chess pieces are made of turned and shaped wood, with contrasting natural and black finishes. Their simple, traditional forms complement the folk-art character of the board beautifully.

A particularly interesting feature is the double-sided design: the folding board opens to reveal a backgammon playing surface, decorated with geometric patterns and central diamond motifs.

The board folds in half for convenient storage and features a small metal closure.

This charming vintage game set would make a wonderful addition to a collection of traditional board games, a rustic interior, or a vintage-inspired study. It is both a functional chess set and a beautiful decorative object.
