Antique Alexanderwerk Book Press, Early 1900s Industrial Antique

Beautiful antique German cast iron bookbinding press, attributed to Alexanderwerk, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1920.

This impressive heavy-duty screw press is a wonderful example of traditional German craftsmanship, combining practical industrial engineering with beautiful decorative details.

The press features a substantial cast iron construction, a large central threaded screw, and a T-shaped handle used to raise and lower the pressing plate. The original black finish is decorated with delicate gold-colored ornamental lines and floral motifs.

Alexanderwerk was a German manufacturer established in Remscheid in the late 19th century, known for producing durable mechanical equipment and machinery.

Originally designed for bookbinding, this type of press was used to apply even pressure to books and paper during the binding process.

Today, it is a beautiful piece of industrial history, perfect for collectors of antique machinery, bookbinding enthusiasts, libraries, historic offices, or interiors with an industrial and vintage character.

The press remains in authentic antique condition, retaining its wonderful aged patina and much of its original decorative finish.

There are visible signs of age and use, including scratches, surface rust, oxidation, areas of worn paint, and some loss of the original gold-colored decoration. These imperfections are consistent with its age and industrial history and contribute to its authentic character.
